Hi, friend I am a Maliswali living in NJ. Postnatal Massage was in actual fact practiced by South-Asian-Indian women, nearly always a village person of advanced age. Postpartum Massage techniques were transmitted orally by Great-Aunts and such, and the benefits of Postpartum Massage Therapy were well-known for ages. These interesting guides knew about herbs. The new Mom was aided in getting back to normal, and this massage practitioner was known as a Maliswali, or "Massage Guardian." The newborn and Mom both get a massage session. The practices date back millenia, however in fact Indian civilization goes back even before the date historians accept as the beginning of life that would be recognizable to a modern person. I go by the name of Binita, which means modest.
